These specs are for software version 13.But other than that, it takes care of the other parts (buffer mainly, but stability and prioritizing too). I'd still send pairs through, maybe even the whole kit if you're really picky. You do still have to account for channels you are not sending through, but I think they have 0 latency on their live plugs, so you're talking very small amounts of processing latency and possibly conversion latency if you're coming from analog. Now, with multi rack you have the same basic issues, they are just more readily handled. In those cases just send both channels through, even if you do no actual processing on one.īut as long as you are 64 buffer or lower, there won't a noticeable latency (it will be less than the delay of the speakers hitting your ears, even within 5 feet, so nothing that will hurt timing or shift something off). This shouldn't really matter unless you're doing a pair, like snare top/bottom, or kick in/out, bass di/mic (if you can get that right in the first place.). The latency will be accounted for by the DAW as you mentioned, but unless you're running every input through the DAW (not ideal), you'll have to potentially account for the latency against the tracks not running through. I've used Pro Tools and Logic live in the same manner with success. The multi-rack basically provides an environment specifically for that, and tries to make it easier for you. It's been possible to use plugins live for as long as we've had digital audio, it just took extra work and had to be done very purposefully. I think latency and stability are the selling points.
